article imageReview: Cher delivers masterful live performance at the Barclays Center Special

By Markos Papadatos     May 3, 2019 in Music
Brooklyn - On May 2, global music star Cher headlined the Barclays Center in Brooklyn as part of her "Here We Go Again" headlining tour.
She kicked off her set with the empowering "Woman's World," which was met with a raucous response. She immediately broke into the vivacious "Strong Enough" and "Gayatri Mantra." The production for her show and the outfit changes were spectacular over the course of the evening.
"I Got You Babe" was certainly the crowd's favorite song from the first half of her show, which she performed with the late Sonny Bono with the help of modern technology. She was dressed like a true queen when she performed "After All." Cher did an excellent job dusting all the ABBA songs and revitalizing them with their own twist. These included "Waterloo," "SOS" and "Fernando," which was sheer bliss.
Equally exceptional was her take on Marc Cohn's "Walking in Memphis," as well as the classics "The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss)" and "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" from the late '60s.
She closed her set with two fan-favorites "I Found Someone" and "If I Could Turn Back Time," where she left her fans wanting to hear more.
For her encore, Cher returned to perform the song that everybody wanted to hear, and that was her signature tune "Believe," which was an upbeat and flawless dance number. Everybody was clapping along with Cher, her dancers, and even aerialists.
The Verdict
One thing is certain. It is not necessary to "turn back time" at the Barclays Center since Cher is here to stay. She made her fans "believe" that she still puts on the best live shows out there, and rightfully so. Cher gave her fans a night of an hour and a half of music to remember.
This concert, which featured her older hits and newer songs, is a substantial indication that Cher belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She is a timeless artist that looked and sounded amazing as ever. Her Barclays Center set garnered an A+ rating.
