Review: Cheap Trick magnificent on new studio album ‘We’re All Alright!’ (Includes first-hand account)

This new album was co-produced by Grammy winner Julian Raymond and Cheap Trick, with Big Machine Label Group CEO Scott Borchetta serving as executive producer. It is easily one of Cheap Trick’s greatest studio efforts to date. This new music is authentic, raw and refreshing.

It opens with the rocking and up-tempo “You Got It Going On,” and it is followed by the mid-tempo “Long Time Coming” and the spitfire “Nowhere.” “Radio Lover” is sassy and a great deal of fun, and equally noteworthy is “Lolita.”

They pick up the pace with “Brand New Name On An Old Tattoo,” and the melodically-stunning “Floating Down,” is one of the highlight tracks on the album. “She’s Alright” has a refreshing and mellow vibe to it, coupled with acoustic instrumentation. “Listen To Me” is an uptempo and carefree tune, and it closes on a fitting note with “The Rest Of My Life.”

In addition, the album comes with three deluxe tracks, which include a cover of The Move’s “Blackberry Way,” “Like A Fly” and “If You Still Want My Love.”

The Verdict

Overall, Cheap Trick’s new album is an absolute gem. Robin Zander’s voice is an eighth world wonder, while Rick Nielsen rocks the lead guitar. When it comes to bass playing, it doesn’t get any better than the band’s very own Tom Petersson. They prove to be like fine wine, where they only get better with experience. We’re All Alright! garners an A rating.

Cheap Trick will be embarking on a worldwide tour, which is presented by Live Nation, in an effort to bring this new music to the fans. They will be joined by Foreigner and Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience.

Lead singer and rhythm guitar player Robin Zander from Cheap Trick chatted with Digital Journal.
