article imageReview: Charlie Daniels masterful at Southern Rock Revival on Long Island Special

By Markos Papadatos     Jul 7, 2018 in Music
Greenvale - On July 6, 2018, Grammy winner Charlie Daniels and his band, The Charlie Daniels Band, headlined the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts on Long Island, as part of the "Southern Rock Revival."
The Country Music Hall of Famer shared the stage with The Outlaws and The Marshall Tucker Band, both of which did a superb job opening for him.
Daniels kicked off their set with "Southern Boy," which earned a tremendous response from the Greenvale audience. He picked up the pace with the melodically infectious "Tennessee Fiddlin' Man," and they had a great deal of fun on stage with "Trudy."
His voice was razor-sharp powerful on the haunting "The Legend of Wooley Swamp," and the inclusion of "Billy the Kid" in their set was an added bonus. "Simple Man" was quite autobiographical for him.
Equally fun was "Peace in the Morning," and one of the stand-out song was "In America," where his timing was perfect. Two days followed the 4th of July holiday, and the audience loved it.
After "Black Ice" and a killer drum solo, they immediately broke into "Long Haired Country Boy" and the irresistible and hilarious "(What This World Needs Is) A Few More Rednecks." Daniels also tipped his large cowboy hat to the late "Man in Black" Johnny Cash with an upbeat version of "Folsom Prison Blues," where everybody was clapping along; moreover, his version of "How Great Thou Art" was rich and sultry.
They closed with "William Tell Overture" and their signature tune, the Grammy-winning "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," which was sheer perfection. It subsequently earned them a lengthy standing ovation, and rightfully so.
17-year-old fan Alex Andrew remarked, "Charlie Daniels was the best concert I ever went to. I think Charlie will ruin it for all future concerts. The Marshall Tucker Band was fantastic too."
Michael Andrew, 13-year-old fan and attendee, remarked, "I can't wait to see Charlie Daniels again. He sounds exactly as he does on Spotify."
The Verdict
Overall, Charlie Daniels and his band were able to put on a top-notch southern rock show at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts. This show marked this journalist's 17th career Charlie Daniels show, and it was one of his best concerts to date. It is evident that Daniels is like fine wine, where he only gets better with age and experience. Daniels and his band perform with such energy and charisma, and they left the Long Island audience wanting to hear more classics. Their live concert garnered an A+ rating. Bravo.
