Review: Brandi Carlile’s ‘The Joke’: Best live performance at the Grammys (Includes first-hand account)

She sang her hit song “The Joke,” which was all heart and soul. Carlile’s harking voice took over the Staples Center, and her powerful performance of “The Joke” evoked raw emotions, thus leaving her listening audience in goosebumps. “The Joke” is a single from her critically-acclaimed album, By the Way, I Forgive You, which was nominated for Grammy award “Album of the Year.”

As Digital Journal reported, Carlile was nominated for six Grammy awards this year, which made her the most-nominated female recording artist. She took home three wins for “Best American Roots Performance,” “Best American Roots Song,” as well as for “Best Americana Album” for By the Way, I Forgive You.

With three Grammy wins, Carlile was tied as the second-most honored artist (along with John Daversa, Lady Gaga and Ludwig Göransson) at this year’s Grammy ceremony. Childish Gambino and Kacey Musgraves took home the most Grammy wins, with four trophies each.

For many years, Carlile has been one of the music industry’s best-kept secrets, but after last night, it is safe to say that the secret is finally out. Whoever was unfamiliar with Carlile and her music, instantly became a fan after that jaw-dropping live performance of “The Joke,” which was sheer bliss. Brandi Carlile certainly proves that she has one of the most captivating voices in the contemporary music scene, and hopefully, these three Grammy wins are a harbinger of bigger and better things to come for the songstress in the near future.
