Their CD opens with “Narrow Streets,” which has an upbeat, funky vibe to it, coupled with soaring harmonies from The Persuasions. It is followed by the mellow “Gonna Walk” and the piano-driven “Don’t Shuffle Me Back.”
“The Old Apartment” is a sultry tune, and they filmed a moving music video for the song, where The Persuasions helped elevate it to a higher level. “Keepin’ It Real” has a retro vibe to it, while “For You” is pure poetry. They pick up the pace with the uplifting “Some Fantastic,” and equally noteworthy is the soulful “Good Times.” “Odds Are” is a masterclass on vocal harmonies, while the soothing “The Sound Of Your Voice” is one of the highlight tracks on the record.
They display their prowess on acoustic guitar on “When I Fall,” while “Maybe Katie” is more mid-tempo with a neat groove to it. An added bonus is to hear a distinct version of their signature song “One Week” with The Persuasions. It closes with the sassy “Four Seconds” and the witty “I Can Sing.”
On April 25, Barenaked Ladies will be performing with The Persuasions at The Paramount in Huntington on Long Island.
