article imageReview: Ann Wilson tips her hat to Chris Cornell with 'Black Hole Sun' Special

By Markos Papadatos     May 19, 2017 in Music
Rock queen Ann Wilson from Heart has paid tribute to her late friend Chris Cornell by singing "Black Hole Sun" in his honor.
Wilson performed the classic Soundgarden song in his memory on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and she did the song justice. Her version was stirring and haunting, and the ultimate honor for her Seattle musical brother.
"It's important now to keep thoughts of Chris positive," Ann Wilson posted on the official Heart Facebook page. "He is on his way. We loved him well, now wish him well on his journey. He was and is a beautiful soul."
Chris Cornell, who passed away tragically yesterday at the age of 52 from suicide, had made the introductory remarks on Ann and Nancy Wilson and their band, Heart, in the 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
The Verdict
Overall, Ann Wilson took a risk by performing "Black Hole Sun," and the risk has paid off, since many fans (Heart and Soundgarden alike) can feel the emotion she poured into this performance. This performance was a gift from a rock and roll goddess. Chris Cornell himself would have been proud, since Heart is one of his greatest musical influences.
