Review: Adam Lambert mesmerizes on ‘Velvet’ album, utterly fantastic (Includes first-hand account)

This latest studio offering comes six months after the release of his critically-acclaimed EP, Velvet: Side A, which was hailed as “amazing” by Digital Journal.

Lambert co-wrote the songs alongside the late but great busbee, Jeremy Dussolliet, Tim Sommers, and Ryan Daly. It was produced by busbee, Ryan Daly and Tim “One Love” Sommers), and the album features “Superpower,” the title track “Velvet,” for which he released a brand new music video that was directed by Charlotte Rutherford, and his infectious single “Roses,” featuring Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Nile Rogers.

The album opens with the hypnotic title cut and it is followed by the sassy and unapologetic “Superpower” and the crisp and funky “Stranger You Are.”

Other highlight tracks include the steamy “Loverboy,” the atmospheric “Overglow,” the melodically-stunning “On the Moon,” and the powerhouse “Love Don’t,” where he displays his tremendous vocal range.

After the groovy “Ready to Run,” it closes with the nonchalant and sultry “New Eyes” and with the inspirational anthem, “Feel Something.”

The Verdict

Overall, Adam Lambert’s Velvet album is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get. It is highly-eclectic and remarkable throughout. The one thing that is for certain is that you can expect greatness throughout this entire album, just different varieties of greatness. Vocally, Lambert is in a league of his own. It garners an A+ rating.
