Wantagh - On October 27, award-winning cover group 45 RPM performed at Mulcahy's Pub and Concert Hall on Long Island, for a good turnout.
Their set included such classic hits as Carly Simon's "You're so Vain," Edison Lighthouse's "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)" and they tipped their hats to the Partridge Family by covering their theme song, "C'mon Get Happy." "Are you guys having a good time?" they asked the Long Island crowd.
45 RPM continued with such memorable songs as KC & The Sunshine Band's "Boogie Shoes," ABBA's "Dancing Queen" and Spiral Starecase's "More Than Yesterday," where the crowd sang along. "Thank you guys for helping us out on that one," they said.
Equally fun was their version of Maxine Nightingale's disco hit "Right Back Where We Started From," where the audience was clapping along with them.
The highlight performance of the night was their soaring rendition of Andy Kim's "Rock Me Gently," which was sheer perfection. During this tune, the fans were dancing, jumping and reciting the catchy chorus verbatim.
After "Come and Get Your Love," they introduced their band, and delivered a vivacious cover of The Four Seasons' "December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)." "Are you guys having a good time tonight?" they asked again, and the answer was a resounding "yes." They closed on a fitting note with "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye."
The Verdict
Overall, there was a great feeling of nostalgia at Mulcahy's Pub and Concert Hall thanks to 45 RPM. The audience was singing, dancing along and reliving their youth. This cover group is worth checking out whenever they are in town. One will not be disappointed. Their live show at Mulcahy's garnered an A rating.
