Their latest single “Dark Necessities” is at No. 1 on both the BDS and Mediabase Alternative charts. As a result, Red Hot Chili Peppers extend their own record as the musical act with the most chart-topping singles in the Billboard Modern Rock chart history, with 13 songs; moreover, they have spent 86 weeks at the top position on these charts, which is yet another record for the iconic group.
“Dark Necessities” is the group’s 14th song to reach the Top 5 and their 25th to reach the Top 10 on the Alternative Charts. During the previous week, their latest song simultaneously topped the Rock and AAA charts, proving that they are a true force to be reckoned with. “Dark Necessities” is their lead single from their eleventh studio album, The Getaway, which was released via their record label, Warner Bros. Records, this past June. The album debuted at No. 1 in such countries as Australia, Belgium, Ireland, Netherlands and New Zealand.
Their previous No. 1 rock singles include “Give It Away,” “Soul to Squeeze,” “My Friends,” “Scar Tissue,” “Otherside,” “Californication,” “By the Way,” “Can’t Stop,” “Dani California,” “Tell Me Baby,” “Snow (Hey Oh)” and “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie.”
Red Hot Chili Peppers is comprised of Anthony Kiedis on lead vocals, Flea on bass, Chad Smith on drums, and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer. They have sold in excess of 60 million albums, and they have won six Grammy awards. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in its class of 2012.
