article imagePRETTYMUCH talks new single 'Summer on You,' Ed Sheeran, Beyonce Special

By Markos Papadatos     Jul 10, 2018 in Music
Pop boy band PRETTY MUCH chatted with Digital Journal about their new single "Summer on You," and their song's music video, which will be released tomorrow.
The group is comprised of such band members as Brandon Arreaga, Edwin Honoret, Austin Porter, Nick Mara and Zion Kuwonu.
Most impressive about their latest single was that it was written by Ed Sheeran. "It's a blessing. As soon as we got the opportunity to have a song written by Ed [Sheeran], it was a great feeling. We were really excited. We waited a full year just to release it. We are happy that it is released," Nick Mara said. "I am super-excited for the video to drop tomorrow. It is going to be sick. We filmed the video up the mountains, so it was very peaceful and beautiful," added Austin Porter.
Austin shared that his biggest musical influences include Elton John, James Taylor, Chicago and The Beatles. "Each day, we are motivated by our passion to create good music for the music culture. We want people to have fun with our music and feel something through it, and feel comfortable with who they are, and to change lives," Austin Porter said.
Edwin Honoret shared that they stay connected with their fans via #prettybrunch. "We have this thing called #prettybrunch every Sunday, where we cook around 12 p.m. and the fans go live on Instagram and they ask us questions," he said. "We always try to meet them on tour."
Zion Kuwonu underscored his excitement for the new "Summer on You" video for tomorrow. "That was super-fun making it. It was laid-back and chill," he said. "Share the video, and tell your friends about the video. It has a good vibe."
For aspiring bands, Zion said, "Keep doing what you like, and what keeps you inspired and what makes you happy."
PRETTYMUCH listed the following female artists as their dream collaboration choices in music: Beyonce, Billie Eilish, and Cardi B.
Edwin also added that the band name PRETTYMUCH started as an inside joke from Zion, and it stuck with them. "The idea behind it is that we don't take ourselves too seriously," he explained. "The label loved it, and we ran with it."
Digital transformation of music business
On the impact of technology on the music business, Brandon Arreaga said, "I think it is absolutely amazing. Technology makes music very accessible. You used to have to go to the store, and look through records and tapes. Now, it's as easy as a click on a button. Personally, I own Apple Music and Spotify. To have every song on your fingertips, is so amazing. To know that our music is in that category is surreal."
Brandon noted that he uses technology every day in his routine as a boy band member. "Every Friday, for new music, I am on the streaming services. I record ideas on my iPhone. I recorded myself playing the steel drum the other day, and I made it into a song. Technology helps you send music to other people too," he said.
"Summer on You" by PRETTYMUCH is available on iTunes.
