Phil Smith talks ‘Best of Long Island’ nod, the ‘2000’s Party’ (Includes interview)

On November 3, he performed at Mulcahy’s along with The 90’s Band, and they shared the stage with 80’s tribute act Decadia.

Regarding their 2018 “Best of Long Island” nomination in the “Best Cover Band” category, Smith said, “It’s pretty cool! We’ve only been around for two or three years, so it is cool to get up there with all the great bands from Long Island.”

On January 20, Smith will be playing with the national Taylor Swift tribute act, Elizabeth Scarborough, at Mulcahy’s as part of “The 2000’s Party.” “I am very excited to see that. I’ve heard great things about The Taylor Swift tribute act. I hear the crowd shows up for her,” he said.

For The 90’s Band fans, he said, “Thank you for supporting us and for coming out to all of our shows, and singing along and dancing and having a good time, and coming back over and over again.”

Smith talks about the digital transformation of the music industry

On the impact of technology in the modern music scene, Smith said, “Napster has changed it! Also, I don’t need that many guitar pedals these days. I just only need one guitar pedal. That’s pretty cool,” he said. “There’s a lot of marketing and promotion thanks to technology. The Internet and social media has given life to our band and what we are doing!”
