article imageOp-Ed: The Chainsmokers should win Grammy award for Best New Artist

By Markos Papadatos     Feb 9, 2017 in Music
Electronic duo The Chainsmokers are nominated for "Best New Artist" at the Grammy awards, and they should win this prestigious category.
The Chainsmokers are nominated along with such diverse artists as country songstresses Kelsea Ballerini and Maren Morris, Chance the Rapper and rapper Anderson .Paak.
What makes The Chainsmokers stand out over the last year is that they were ubiquitous on the radio airwaves. They had some major singles that are just too big to be ignored such as "Don't Let Me Down" featuring Daya, "Roses" featuring Rozes and their global smash hit "Closer" featuring Halsey. "Closer" spent 12 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts, and it reached No. 1 in many countries worldwide. They even headlined some major music festivals including Electric Zoo: Wild Island in New York.
From all of these reasons and more, The Chainsmokers should be crowned winners of the "Best New Artist" Grammy award at the ceremony this weekend. If that does happen. that recognition would be based on merit, talent and hard work.
