article imageOp-Ed: Barry Manilow puts on the best Broadway concert of 2019

By Markos Papadatos     Dec 24, 2019 in Music
New York - Veteran singer-songwriter Barry Manilow put on the greatest Broadway concert of 2019 with his limited engagement at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater in Manhattan.
His concert garnered five out of five stars from Digital Journal, and rightfully so. Manilow was able to take his audience on a journey through time with his music.
Manilow played hit after hit for his fans. He invited the audience to sing along with him on "Can't Smile Without You," and he paid homage to his Brooklyn roots with "Brooklyn Blues." He also honored his late grandfather with "This One's for You," in a moving performance that left many in tears.
The two highlight songs in his set were his enthralling version of "Memory" and his signature tune "Mandy." He noted that only his version and Barbra Streisand's rendition of "Memory" were the most successful commercially. During "Mandy," Manilow showed a video in the giant televised green of him performing the piano-laden ballad in the '70s, and then he joined in midway through the song which felt like he was dueting with his himself in a different musical era (the '70s), which was a real treat.
For all of these reasons and more, Barry Manilow delivered the greatest Broadway concert in 2019. The audience was well aware that they were in the presence of musical greatness. It is evident that Barry Manilow's music will stand the test of time. Whoever has yet to see this gifted performer live, is truly missing out, and those that are missing out ought to add a ticket to his concert to their bucket list.
At 76 years old, Barry Manilow still possesses more talent and charisma than the vast majority of the contemporary artists that are played on the radio airwaves. His songs are heartfelt, classic and meaningful, and they resonate well with listeners on an emotional level.
