Nile Rodgers and Chic to perform at We Are Family Foundation GALA

This year’s event will posthumously honor Nelson Mandela with the Mattie J.T. Stepanek Peacemaker Award, where the award will be accepted by Mandela’s family. Previous honorees of this prestigious honor have included U.S. President Jimmy Carter, Dr. Maya Angelou, Desmond Tutu, Deepak Chopra and Paul Simon.

The We Are Family Foundation is a not-for-profit, charitable organization that was founded by Grammy-winning musician Nile Rodgers, and it is dedicated to the vision of a global family.

In addition, the legendary hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest will receive the Unity Award, an honor that has been bestowed upon such noteworthy artists as Adam Lambert and Kool & the Gang; moreover, retired professional NBA player Dikembe Mutombo will receive the Humanitarian Award for his philanthropic efforts.

The We Are Family Foundation GALA will feature entertainment from Nile Rodgers and his band Chic, as well as A Tribe Called Quest. The funds that will be raised will support the organization’s mission statement, in an effort to promote world peace.

Speaking of Chic and Nile Rodgers, they will be headlining New York’s Madison Square Garden on August 7, along with Earth, Wind & Fire.
