article imageMitch Bradford discusses 'Love Is Kind,' music and technology Special

By Markos Papadatos     Sep 14, 2018 in Music
Singer-songwriter Mitch Bradford chatted with Digital Journal about his new single "Love Is Kind" and his upcoming album.
On his single "Love Is Kind," he said, "I was thinking a lot about love and romance, and why we get into relationships. I think the song comes out of reflecting on that. I was in a number of relationships at the time, and I was trying to figure out what being in love is about. I think it's about being there for the other person and being kind, and I hope that is reflected in the song."
Bradford hinted that he will be releasing a music video for the song, which will be "really cool and unique." "That should be really exciting," he said.
He teamed up with Grammy-winning producer Matt Ross-Spang, who has worked with such artists as Chris Isaak, Jason Isbell and Zac Brown, to write and record his debut album.
“Love Is Kind” showcases the easy-going sound that Bradford was striving for. The twangy hooks and lyrics stick around after the song's final chords. Bradford will release his new album Love Is Kind in October of 2018, and he will support it with a tour. "We will be playing a series of shows, and there will be one show in New York," he said. "Hopefully, there will be a larger tour in the future."
Digital transformation of the music business
On the impact of technology on the music industry, Bradford said, "It's super interesting since I think that it's powerful for the distribution. It is easier than ever to get your music out there, and your music can be heard. The converse of that is that it's hard to cut above the noise. The network is powerful for distribution, but it's hard to cut above the noise and the Internet as well. There is an internal tension to it. Technology is not going away, so we all have to learn how to use technology to our advantage."
He continued, "I have been really impressed with Spotify, Soundcloud and iTunes, and their ability to get new fans to listen to the tunes, which I appreciate."
On his use of technology in his daily life, Bradford said, "I use technology as a person and as a musician. I wonder if I am addicted to it. I know I am addicted to it. As a musician, I am active on Instagram and on Facebook. I love watching the tunes grow and being added to playlists. It is really empowering, and that's what keeps me going. Technology is a hustle though and you need to be active on it to promote your music so that it can be heard. I am always trying to do that to engage more fans and listeners."
Bradford was born and raised in the small town of Brownsville, Texas, and he discovered music at a young age. He immersed himself in the sounds of such iconic singer-songwriters as Neil Young, Jackson Browne, and Joni Mitchell, among others.
"Love Is Kind" is available on iTunes.
