Wantagh - Mike DelGuidice from the acclaimed Billy Joel tribute band, Big Shot, sat down and chatted with me about the Big Shot annual Luau at Mulcahy's.
This annual event at Mulcahy's featured a free pig roast, as well as drink specials and an opening set by Hat Trick on their outside Tiki Bar. "I'm feeling very Hawaiian today," DelGuidice said. "We do this every year, and it's a lot of fun. It's going to be a good night, since we have our horn section."
As a member of Billy Joel's band, DelGuidice was asked by his boss, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Billy Joel, to break into the opera staple "Nessun Dorma," in front of 37,000 fans. "That felt great after I knew that I made it through. It was very nerve-wrecking and I was having a heart attack," he said, with a laugh. "I was scared, and my blood pressure went through the roof. I had stomach pains after, but at the end, it was fantastic. It was a lot of fun and an honor," he added.
DelGuidice's version of "Nessun Dorma" can be heard on his official YouTube channel below.
On July 28, at The Emporium in Patchogue, DelGuidice performed a benefit concert to raise funds for Suffolk County Crime Stoppers, in an effort to help fight the heroin epidemic on Long Island. "That was a special night. We had a lot of family of the people that lost loved ones. All the police departments came together, and they bonded for the night, and we're trying to start a train and get this train going, to try and attack the epidemic. It was a really nice night," he said.
DelGuidice revealed that on August 14, he will be at 89 North in Patchogue for the "Rock Out for Nico" fundraiser, where several great bands will come together for Nico Vigliotti, and for "Paving Pathways for Tomorrow." "It is tough to see kids sick. It is not natural," the humble singer said.
