article imageMickey Jack Cones talks digital transformation of country music Special

By Markos Papadatos     Oct 20, 2017 in Music
Nashville - Acclaimed country producer Mickey Jack Cones chatted with Digital Journal about the digital transformation of the country music industry, and he gave an exclusive gender reveal of his twins (that he and his wife are expecting).
On the digital transformation of the country scene, he said, "Technology has changed the way we 'do' music; from the creation of it, to delivering it to the hands (ears) of the listeners. History has shown us that anytime there is technological advancement in the means of delivering music to the people, the creators and owners of the copyrights suffer; especially when the governing laws only pertain to the current means at that time. However, in the early 2000's, when digital downloads and streaming began surfacing, I did not predict that by 2017, music creators and copyright owners would still be fighting for their rights to receive royalties based on the new ways music was being delivered. I assumed, that as an educated and evolved society, this issue would be swiftly and fairly resolved by now, unlike it was 60 years ago. Shame the lawmakers for not amending the laws immediately and righting the wrong being done to the creators of music and the copyright owners."
The esteemed producer continued, "I've been playing, recording and producing music professionally for over 25 years. Growing up, I studied the production styles and techniques of all the greats, from Sir George Martin to Mutt Lange. They were and are (respectively) hands-on producers that 'know music,' and they were geniuses at their craft. I can only imagine the music they could have produced if they would've had the editing flexibility and creative freedom that we have today. Today's technology allows music creators to virtually 'think it', and bring it to life, almost instantaneously. And, mark my words, the day will come when that can literally happen."
As a hands-on music producer, Mickey Jack Cones uses technology avidly in his daily life. "I use technology daily from playing, singing, recording and mixing on the records I produce, to uploading the final masters to the artists, record labels and distributing to the world. Technology is apart of my everyday process," he explained.

In his personal life, Mickey Jack Cones revealed the exclusive new baby news to Digital Journal. "Shannon and I couldn't be more ecstatic! We wanted our seven month old, Jackson Daniel Cones, to have a sibling that was closer in age, but little did we know he would be 'outmanned' by two girls! All parents pray for healthy babies, but deep down inside, after we found out Shannon was pregnant with twins, we were hoping for girls."
