Perez is the president of the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the co-founder of the Latin Grammy awards. Perez is the first Latin record producer to win the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks “Producer of the Year” for four years in a row; moreover, he is the recipient of “Songwriter of the Year” five times from American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). He was named “Producer of the Decade” by Billboard Magazine for having more No. 1 and Top 10 hits from 2000 to 2010 than any other Latin producer in music history. He went on to earn over 400 gold and platinum album awards, and he has garnered 19 Grammy nominations, with five Grammy wins.
On being a special guest at the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Perez said, “I feel great because this is a great night for songwriters. This is the night where we get to actually treat them very special because they are very special. They write the soundtrack of our lives. They are people like Allee Willis and Neil Diamond. How good is this? To have them all in this room tonight, and to be able to applaud them. I am just blessed to be here tonight to support.”
Regarding the impact of technology on the music business, Perez said, “I think technology has changed it dramatically. I think it will be streaming for good. I think there are going to be very special things to come. I am one of the members of the ASCAP board. I can tell you that there are some great and exciting things coming for music.”
Throughout his musical career, which has spanned over three decades, Perez has written over 1,000 songs, where 300 of his compositions have peaked at No. 1 or reached the Top 10 on the Billboard charts.
As a songwriter and producer, Perez has worked with such esteemed artists as Beyonce, Julio Iglesias, Christina Aguilera, Michael Bolton, Cyndi Lauper, Natalie Cole, and Jose Feliciano (who was the first artist that Perez produced), among countless others.
