Lippman’s main focus is guiding the company’s remarkable artist and producer roster in the multi-faceted music business. Their impressive client roster includes such versatile artists as Matchbox Twenty, Rob Thomas, George Michael, Ryan Cabrera, Beyond the Sky, Radical Something and Madi Wolf, and they are known for their long-lasting relationships with their artists, spanning more than 30 years.
He and his father, Michael Lippman, were recently featured in Billboard Magazine, where their father-son management team was profiled by the media outlet. “That was great,” he said. “We don’t really go after press, since we are always about the clients. They called and I got to do this with my father, which was a lot more special. My father and I are very very close as friends and as business-people, and it allowed us to talk about each other.”
The hardest part of his job as a music manager is “the continuous managing of expectations.” His plans for the future are to promote newer talents such as Madi Wolf and Radical Something. “Madi is an amazing 18-year-old talent. Radical Something has a new album out, we spent this entire year getting it all together while incorporating some really unique marketing strategies,” he said. “My future is in the artists that we have. We have a pretty incredible and diverse roster. I believe in them wholeheartedly. I am really excited about building on what we have accomplished.”
In 2012, Lippman was nominated for Billboard Magazine’s “40 under 40,” among many other accolades. “I love building long-term and long-standing relationships and friendships with people. That’s one of the perks of this business,” he said.
He shared that Beyond the Sky is Ryan Cabrera’s side project. “Ryan is also one of my closest friends and we really believe in each other. Ryan is one of the smartest people when it comes to understanding and knowing music. He plays multiple instruments and has an incredible ear and I don’t think people know that. Beyond the Sky was our way of allowing him to express himself creatively without any boundaries, and that’s what Beyond the Sky means. It is a great introduction to where we are going,” Lippman said.
One of his proudest moments this year was coming up with the Rob Thomas Hologram Karaoke, as part of his VIP experience in his live shows. “We tried to come up with an interactive way where people could do something that they would never get to do, like become a hologram, and take that experience, and put with your favorite artist, and have fun with it and have something to share,” he said. “People are really enjoying it, and the fans get to do something unique.”
Aside from being a music manager, Lippman is also a father to two girls. “I enjoy being a father so much and it’s such an important part of who I am, and I make it work. When my oldest daughter was in her first year, there was a time I didn’t have a babysitter and had to take her with me to see a band. I put headphones on her off we went,” he said. “I just try hard to integrate it, and I don’t separate it.”
Each day, Lippman is motivated by his opportunity to get to work with his father. “Not many people get to do that in their life, and do it at the daily level that we get to do it is just awesome,” he said.
