Lost Frequencies talks music, technology and ‘Are You With Me’ (Includes interview)

“It’s my first time at Electric Zoo, and I am really excited to play a big festival in New York,” he said.

This past March, he did a video explaining the remix of “Guinea Pig.” “I am a really big fan of that group, and I wanted to show people how I work in the studio. It was a really cool experience to be able to do that,” he said.

Regarding his future plans, Lost Frequencies said, “My new album is going to be more electronic than I used to do, because my sets are now more melodic and electronic.”

On the success of his Haddaway’s remix of “What is Love,” he said, “It got some attention, and I was really happy to be able to do this track.”

Lost Frequencies also shared that he was happy with Crazy,” his collaboration with the Dutch duo Zonderling.

A few years back, Lost Frequencies catapulted to international fame thanks to the commercial success of “Are You With Me.” “It was my first single, and thanks to this track my music got bigger and bigger, and that’s why I am here today,” he said.

While he acknowledged that he has never met country star Easton Corbin in person, who sings the vocals on the song, Lost Frequencies shared that he has exchanged emails with the songwriters of the song, and hopes to work with them again in the future. “I still really love the original version of Easton Corbin’s song, and that’s why I did the remix of it,” he explained.

He shared that his stage name, Lost Frequencies, was derived from him working on remixes of old tracks, and those were the “lost frequencies” that he would do new versions for.

For aspiring DJs and producers, Lost Frequencies encouraged them to “Try to be different.” “People also like it in the long-run when you create your own vibes,” he said.

Digital transformation of electronic dance music

On the impact of technology on the electronic music business, Lost Frequencies said, “Now music is a way to show what your project is all about, and to get people to come to a show, and that way, you can make some money. To me, releasing music is exciting because you can share the new material that you are working on. I love how you can share things now with your friends and you get immediate feedback from fans. In the last three or four years, the music business has changed a lot, thanks to technology, and it will continue to change, so we need to be open to the possibilities.”

“I am more of a laptop producer, as opposed to working on a computer,” he admitted. “Now I am starting to build my own studio, and I am starting to add some synthesizers and analog sounds.”
