Logan Henderson talks ‘Pull Me Down,’ remembers Aretha Franklin (Includes interview)

Henderson played the “Sun Stage” at the 2018 Billboard Hot 100 Festival at the Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York. “I’m doing very good,” he admitted. “This is a very big festival. It is awesome that they asked me to come and play. Billboard has been a big supporter for a long time. The turnout was amazing. It was midday, but everybody came through and we had a wild time.”

He continued, “New York is like a second home for me. One of my very first shows was right in Times Square.”

On his new single, “Pull Me Deep,” he said, “It was a song that I did with really talented writers and producers. It was a song that I felt like I needed. I had been writing about heartbreak for so long, so I wanted something very difficult and very minimal. I wanted to touch on my romantic side, and being okay to let your guard down and getting lost with someone else.”

Henderson hinted that he has some “visual” ideas for the song, implying that there may be a video in the future.

If he weren’t a musician, Henderson revealed that he has his sailing license, so he would love to travel the world on a boat, and showing people around. He revealed that he is also a “decent swimmer,” who got his “lifeguard license” back in the day.

On the impact of technology on the music business, Henderson said, “You have music so readily available. It allows me to listen to everything I can. There is so much good music out. Technology is great.”

A Big Time Rush album, Henderson defined the word success as “being happy and being able to connect.” “A lot of it is about the love and connectivity that we share as human beings. Make everything great and making everything as fun as possible.”

He also took some time to honor and respect to the late “Queen of Soul.” “I listened to Aretha Franklin in the car with my dad on my way to school when I was young. We have been big fans of Aretha. She was a legend, and her music will absolutely live on. What a beautiful soul,” he said. “My favorite song of hers was ‘Respect,’ and I also liked ‘Natural Woman.’ It honors the strong women that we have, including the ones here at the Billboard Hot 100 Festival. The women that paved the way were really special. A song like ‘Respect’ and a person like Aretha embodies that. May she rest in peace.”

“Pull Me Deep” is available on iTunes.
