Wantagh - Ed Kowalczyk, the front-man of the rock band LIVE, chatted with Digital Journal about their new single "Love Lounge," and their tour with Counting Crows.
On August 22, 2018, LIVE will be performing at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York. "We are super excited. We just kicked off this tour the other night in Boise, Idaho, and it was a great show," he said. "We have toured with Counting Crows before, so we are long-time buddies, and there is a great camaraderie on tour. It's a really cool thing. We are playing outside Seattle tonight. By the time we get to Jones Beach, we will be firing on all cylinders."
Kowalczyk acknowledged that it feels great to be reunited with the band. "It's a band that is really excited to be back and to be together. You can hear that in the music and it's really authentic," he said.
Regarding their new single, "Love Lounge," he said, "After we wrapped up the festivals last year, the writing process kicked up a notch. We had some new ingredients in our writing process with two new musicians playing with the band: Robin Diaz on drums and Zak Loy on guitar. It opened the whole thing up and Zak wrote an amazing riff for 'Love Lounge' in January, and that's where the lyric comes from. We had a really beautiful arrangement, and we decided to record it. The band has such an infectious energy on that song."
Kowalczyk listed Lana Del Rey as his dream female collaboration choice in music. "That's easy. Lana Del Rey. I love her music. Lana, if you are reading this, hit me up. Let's do a duet," he said.
The rocker defined the word success as "happiness and gratitude."
Digital transformation of the music business
On the impact of technology on the music business, Kowalczyk said, "I actually love Spotify. I think it's a platform that is really great, since as a writer, I can access to any recording that I can possibly imagine. I have been listening to a lot of early blues, and getting a full blown education on that. It is all at my fingertips on my phone, which is an incredible thing. Technology has made the business itself and promotion more challenging. It's a mixed bag, but I just love the convenience and the depths of the collections that are on there."
Kowalczyk uses technology to record his Voice Memos for song ideas. "The digital recording technology is pretty dominant. We are using Pro Tools in the studio. There is technology all over the place with the way we approach things," he said.
"Love Lounge" is available on iTunes.
