On his 2018 Grammy nomination, Latroit said, “That was unexpected, and quite exciting. Artists like Depeche Mode have really contributed to pop culture history, and they cannot be underestimated. I’m a lifelong fan of theirs.”
The song “You Move” is a track on their 14th studio album, Spirit, and Latroit (also known as Dennis White) was commissioned by KCRW music director Jason Bentley to create a remix that would take the song from the arenas back to the clubs that defined much of Depeche Mode’s career. “I didn’t have any direct interaction with them. It was done through Jason Bentley who put the remix project together and A&Red it for me. We traded notes back and forth and that was what the creative process was like,” he said. “I hope I did the Depeche Mode fans justice with this remix! It meant a lot to me to do it.”
Ironically enough, this Grammy nomination coincides with Depeche Mode’s second career nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, for the Class of 2018. “Isn’t that amazing? That’s super exciting,” Latroit said. “Depeche Mode always puts on the most amazing concerts.”
Latroit is a former member of legendary techno act Inner City (featuring Kevin Saunderson and Paris Grey), through his various projects, White has created BPI and ARIA certified gold, platinum, and double platinum records, and multiple Billboard #1 Club Chart hits for such artists as Madonna and Hans Zimmer.
On his plans for the future, Latroit said, “I have some music coming, which is exciting. I do some music for TV and film. I enjoy those project. I am working on this new radio on EDM.com, It’s called House of Latroit Radio. We just launched the first episode last week. It will be two episodes a month.”
He is also working with Australian artist Charlz. “I have a song with her that just came out in Australia. I have more collaborations with her. I am really excited about her,” he said.
His “You Move’ remix is available on Spotify.
