article imageKendall Schmidt talks new Heffron Drive single 'One Way Ticket' Special

By Markos Papadatos     Aug 11, 2017 in Music
Kendall Schmidt (formerly of Big Time Rush) chatted with Digital Journal about his new single "One Way Ticket" with Heffron Drive.
On their new single, "One Way Ticket," Schmidt said, "Dustin Belt and I were going through tracks, and we started with the beginning guitar bit (the transition between the two chords). It had a Fleetwood Mac kind of feeling to it. They got really focused in doing a nostalgic thing. The harmonies were very Third Eye Blind-type of harmonies, and it stayed in that fashion."
Schmidt shared that he and Belt enjoy played overseas since the biggest market for their music is at the international level.
A native of Kansas, Schmidt had nothing but the kindest remarks about James Maslow, who was named Macy's 2017 iHeartRadio Rising Star winner."I love James. We all love each other. I worked closely with Carlos, and I see Logan all the time, and we are always talking about working on new music," he said.
On their future plans, Schmidt said, "Dustin and I are working on new music. We are trying to put out a full-length album before the end of October, but if we can't, he will put out an EP at the very least, and we will release at least a couple of more singles."
Regarding the impact of technology in the music business, he said, "I've been trying a whole bunch of streams, to get people to stream my songs. I feel that people don't care to pay for music anymore, so I have to get people to stream it. Spotify has added a lot of great things, but the top play-lists on Spotify are controlled by the biggest labels, so it's a little frustrating. Even this avenue of advertising is being jeopardized."
When asked how he uses technology in his daily routine, he said, "I'm pretty good at tweeting when my song comes out, and pushing it hard. The music industry is about figuring out how to work social networks as well. The best way is to keep in touch with the fans, and I always take photos and answer their questions."
