By Markos Papadatos     Feb 12, 2017 in Music
Musical duo Joey + Rory won their first Grammy award for "Best Roots Gospel Album" for their inspirational album "Hymns."
They bested such albums as Better Together by Gaither Vocal Band, Nature's Symphony In 432 by The Isaacs, Hymns And Songs Of Inspiration by Gordon Mote and God Don't Never Change: The Songs Of Blind Willie Johnson, where various artists contributed to that project.
Joey + Rory's Grammy win takes place almost one year after Joey lost her battle to cancer. She was 40 years old. In his moving acceptance speech, Rory noted that it was his wife's dream to record a hymns album, and she did not have the chance to fulfill that wish until she was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer.
Their Hymns album earned a favorable review from Digital Journal and other music critics. When it debuted on the Billboard charts, Hymns topped the Billboard Top County Albums charts, as well as the Billboard Top Christian Albums charts, with the duo's best sales week ever.
