Labelle will be playing the main stage at Ole Red on August 22 and 23, as well as on August 31 in Nashville. “Ole Red has been amazing. We are playing there two more days there this week, and then again at the end of the month. It has been a great home for me. I really love playing there,” he said.
He revealed that he has a single out that is finished, and it will be released in January of 2019. “It is a really important song and a very special song to me,” he admitted. “We want to make sure that all of the pieces are lined up when it comes out.”
His plans for the future include a great deal of touring. “I want to develop a following out there,” he said and shared that he will be playing shows in California. “I am really excited to get some new music out. I know the wait is a little long, but it is worth it since it is the most important song I have ever written.”
Labelle listed Sheryl Crow and Carrie Underwood as his dream female duet choices. “I was always a huge fan of Sheryl Crow. I would love to have her sing on a song. There is something about her voice. I think she’s fantastic. I grew up listening to a lot of her records,” he said. “I would love to work with Carrie too. She is such a powerhouse singer.”
Digital transformation of the music business
On the impact of technology on the music business, Labelle said, “Technology has changed it a lot. In this day and age, technology is helping the music industry through social media, and the ability to connect with a larger number of fans, which makes it a lot easier. You can reach people a lot quicker than you could before. I am a huge fan of it, and I feel that it helps the artists.”
Labelle continued, “I use technology to keep people up-to-date with what I am doing, whether it is through social media (Instagram or Twitter). I always want to let people know what I am doing in the studio, and give them a window into my life. I produce a lot of records on my own at home. I love doing Live videos with my fans to get their opinions about the music before it comes out. I use technology as often as I can.”
