JADE talks new single ‘Wait for Me,’ debut EP and Justin Bieber (Includes interview)

On her single “Wait For Me,” she said, “I remember walking into the studio like any other day, and SQURL, my producer, was pretty excited to show me this new track. It’s funny because originally the beat was written for another artist and I remember wishing it was mine. The next few weeks that followed he would build on it until eventually he said, “The other artist didn’t work out, you should write something to this.’ And so that same day ‘Wait For Me’ was born!”

Her future plans include more live shows. “I can’t wait to play around more, tour, travel and show my music to new people. A new album is also in the works with plans for release early next year! These next few months are going to be all about planning for this new release and tour,” she said.

She shared that her music is inspired by things in her personal life. “I find writing comes easiest to me when I’m in emotional pain. The more I’m hurting, the better the song is! I can write when I’m happy or neutral, but I get the best results when I’m miserable. It’s a win lose situation really, but at least I always get something positive out of being fucked over?”

JADE’s greatest music influence is Lorde. “Not only her music but just the way she carries herself. It’s so free and real, and she’s not afraid to be weird,” she explained.

On the digital transformation of the music business, she said, “Since I’ve started writing songs, technology has totally changed the game. These days, you can go your whole life without singing or picking up a single instrument, but you can still hop on a computer and make a song. It’s totally possible to have no musical incline but still manage to pop out a decent beat. Fortunately, you can usually tell the difference between someone who works their whole life for it and someone who sometimes makes something for a hobby.”

Regarding her use of technology in her daily routine as a musician, she said, “A lot of little ways, such as guitar tuner apps, recording on voice memos or writing lyrics in the Notes app. Then the social media side. Aesthetically pleasing posts, music videos, messaging, live streams, etc. And of course the production process of the actual music. Everything is on a computer. You can line notes up perfectly, delete the extra note you accidentally played, different voice filters and synths. These days music is nothing without technology.”

She listed “The Biebs” Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran and Harry Styles as her dream male duet choices. “I think their voices would mix well with mine for an emotional duet! Blackbear as well, I think we would be able to make a banger,” she said.

For her fans, she concluded about her debut Pink EP, “I hope the fans can relate to it. It has the kind of songs that make them want to scream the lyrics. I’ve often found my identity through other people’s music. If I could do the same, I’d be happy.”
