Interview: Kendall Lake talks new song ‘Thought You Should Know’ (Includes interview)

When asked how the song “Thought You Should Know” came about, she said, “I actually wrote and recorded that song almost four years ago, I think I was pissed off at someone but I love this song so much. I’m happy someone made me mad.”

She continued, “Making the music video for the song was the absolute best. It was so beyond fun. I had my best friends, my band, a dope director (Wesley Quinn) and we got to smash a ton of stuff! What gets better than that? I can’t wait for you guys to see it.”

“I’ve filmed three music videos in the past and didn’t release them because I didn’t feel they were the right way to introduce myself or my music visually. So finally having a video I can 100 percent get behind and feel confident about I celebrating by getting everyone involved. I’m starting confessional challenge on social media where I’m getting everyone to make a video confessing anything and everything they’d like someone to know. Saying no names, of course, just a fun little sharing of things they’ve never told someone. I already have a ton of them submitted and I’ll be posting them every Thursday with the hashtags #ThoughtYouShouldKnow. I’m so so excited about it, some of the confessions I have already are hilarious,” she added.

Regarding her plans for the future, she said, “I’ve been recording a lot of new music, the studio and the stage are home for me, I’m also throwing parties at Los Globos called SKITZO. I love music and tequila and making new friends while getting into a healthy amount of trouble so I’m combining all of that and bringing a ton of artists and musicians and music lovers together to party with me, that’s what SKITZO is all about. I’m releasing new music, SKITZO and dropping my very first music video for my song ‘Thought You Should Know.’ I’m really excited!”

On the SKITZO concert series, she said, “Being born and raised in Hollywood, I’ve been around people in the entertainment industry my whole life. No one becomes successful on their own. No one. Yet sometimes people don’t help each other. It’s like they think there is a competition and it’s not. There’s enough to sun for us all to shine. So I started SKITZO to help artist and encourage them to help each other by not only performing together but actually introducing each other their fans. It’s been great to get these amazing artist to show up and watch each other perform, cheer each other on and mingle with the crowd instead of come perform for their set time and talk to their own fans and then leave. It’s dope. Taking that, it’s a party at its core. Specialty drinks, pole dancers, live muralists, themed night, everything. It’s a really really good time. It’s a limited series and I can’t wait for the next one.”

Each day, the songstress motivates herself to be happy. “That’s the only reason anyone really does anything, because we think it will make us happy. I make music because it makes me happy. I’ll sit on the couch and watch Friends all day if that’s what going to truly make me happy that day.”

She listed Fred Durst (of Limp Bizkit) and Ed Sheeran as her dream male duet choices. “I can’t even explain how much I love Fred Durst and how much he inspired me when I was growing up. Limp Bizkit is so dope! The second would have to be Ed Sheeran. I just love everything thing about him musically. His voice, melodies, lyrics, everything,” she said.

For her fans, she concluded, “Thought You Should Know is a good old fashion angry break up song. Who doesn’t need one of those? I hope they love it and my music video for it.”
