article imageInterview: Granger Smith talks new single 'Happens Like That' Special

By Markos Papadatos     May 13, 2017 in Music
Country singer Granger Smith chatted with Digital Journal about his new radio single, "Happens Like That," which will be released on May 19.
Smith co-wrote this song with Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia Line, and songwriters Jordan Schmidt, Justin Wilson and Andy Albert. "I have been doing all the writing for this album on the bus and I've been bringing people out. It has been a fun, new aspect of writing this album. 'Happens Like That' was written on November 11 of last fall in Tacoma, Washington. We were on a writing trip, and that was the second time we wrote on that day. We came up with this groove that felt right and it felt cool. We were off to the races with that concept," he said.
Smith added, "This song has a little bit of a darker flair sonically for me. It adds a different component to our show and it makes it more believable and more dynamic."
His first two radio singles have been smash hits. These include his breakthrough single "Backroad Song," which went to No. 1 on country radio, and "If The Boot Fits," which was a Top 5 hit.
This year, Smith was nominated for "Best New Country Artist" at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. "That was a really cool experience. That was my first multi-genre award show to be a part of. Seeing all the artists from all different genres mixed into one room was really cool and humbling. I felt lucky to be a part of it," he said.
His summer will be quite busy since Smith will be playing at fairs and festivals, all while promoting his new single "Happens Like That." "It's going to be a rewarding year," he said.
