Interview: Dyro talks new track ‘Surrounded,’ summer plans (Includes interview)

On the origin of “Surrounded,” Dyro said, “I’ve been sitting on a lot of new material for over a year now and ‘Surrounded’ was a track I was excited to release. It’s not as high-energy as ‘Alive’ but it still has this power that creeps up and explodes, that is really what I loved. It came about from experimenting in the studio with more dub and trap-influenced sounds and ‘Surrounded’ has an electro feel still with a big melody, so even fans that liked my older production styles will still enjoy it.”

He collaborated with Joe Taylor on the tune “Surrounded.” “It was dope! After ‘Alive,’ I knew I wanted to work with him again his voice felt really refreshing and different to add to the track, like the two styles between us, you wouldn’t always hear those together but when you do they sound unique,” he said.

For Dyro, it was a liberating experience to do this project on WOLV. “I took a step back for the best part of a year to refocus and plan my direction. I changed my management team and wanted to start a fresh and with these first two tracks, ‘Alive’ and ‘Surrounded,’ to be able to release them on WOLV with collaborators I enjoy working with and on my own terms is the best feeling. To be your own artist and have the trust and freedom of those around you, professionally and personally, is what every artist wants and WOLV is a big extension of that for me,” he explained.

On the future of electronic music in the next five years, he said, “I think the mainstream scene is plateauing for sure. The ‘main’ events and tracks are still super big across EDM, big-room, but fans want variety and originality so I think we’ll see the scenes across electronic music divide into their own pools even further. I don’t think that is a bad thing, kids want counter-culture and to be a part of a movement – I want to be a part of that wave as an individual artist.”

Dyro is wrapping up his tour in Asia, and it will be followed with more music and a “big summer” for shows. “I’m stoked for this year with all the plans we have in place, this is just the beginning,” he said.

He hopes to be back again performing live in the “Big Apple.” “NYC is always sick! You can keep up to date with all my shows on my Facebook page, I hope to come back to the U.S.A. soon, all the fans are a blast over there,” he said.

For aspiring DJs and producers, Dyro responded, “All I can say is stay unique, don’t try and imitate someone else’s work, or your idols. Oh, and don’t bypass contracts, understand exactly what you’re signing and lawyer up – it will save your ass in the long-run.”

Dyro told his dedicated fans, “Thanks for all the support, wait til you see what else we have in store for this year!”
