She will be celebrating her 100th birthday with a new studio album. “I feel very fortunate and delighted that people are still interested in music from that nostalgic era,” Dame Vera said.
On March 18, there will be a concert at the London Palladium, entitled “100: A Tribute to Dame Vera Lynn,” which celebrates the life and music of the “Forces Sweetheart.”
For her 99th birthday, Dame Vera Lynn was made a Companion of Honour (CH) by Queen Elizabeth II. “I was extremely proud and honoured to be given the Companion of Honour last year,” she said.
Dame Vera has been in show business for 93 years, which speaks volumes about her longevity in the music and entertainment industry. “I have always looked after my health – I’ve eaten sensibly and never indulged in excess of food or liquor,” she said. “Also, I’ve always taken a keen interest in life by keeping in touch with family and friends in the business, as well as by gardening and painting.”
For her loyal fans, Dame Vera Lynn concluded, “Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
