Florian Picasso discusses electronic music, Miami Music Week (Includes interview)

“It feels good to be in New York,” he said, prior to noting that Miami Music Week was an “amazing” experience. “I got to showcase a lot of new music and make a cameo on stage with Nicky Romero,” he said. “I got to see a lot of my DJ friends.”

Florian is drawn to the electronic genre due to its “energy,” especially when playing festivals. “It is crazy and people enjoy partying. It is a good vibe,” he said.

He listed “Make Up Your Mind,” his collaboration with Martin Garrix as his personal favorite track of his. “It is a very special track because some people love it and some people hate it. It is a hit or miss. We are in this business to make something different and not to duplicate others,” he said.

Another favorite track is “This Is Our Time” due to its melodies, nice drop and ability to be different. “It’s more down-tempo and I tried to slow it down a bit. It has a positive message for the younger generation,” Picasso said.

Each day, he is inspired by getting to play the big festivals and seeing people happy, whether the people are in festivals or in the clubs. “I was adopted from Vietnam, so I went back there and saw all the kids there. Some don’t get the chance to do what they love, and there is a lot of poverty there. I’m on a mission and I want to make the most out of it,” he said.

This year, Picasso ranked No. 38 on the DJ Magazine Top 100 DJs poll. “That felt great,” he said. “I’m happy to be there. My main focus is the music.”

Most impressive about Florian is that he is the great-grandchild of famous painter Pablo Picasso. “I was adopted in Vietnam by his granddaughter Marina,” he said.

In his spare time, Picasso is extremely passionate about Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He defined the word success as “being happy and satisfied” in life. “Thank you to the fans for this amazing opportunity. There is a lot more coming. I’m going to try to make something new always, and we will see how it goes,” he told his fans.
