Fedde le Grand talks new music, Dannic, Marquee New York show (Includes interview)

On the song selection process for his album Something Real, he said, “There actually were a few records that I’d been working on for a while already which I was very happy to finish and be part of the album. Some of the others really came together in the process. And some just really had to be on there for instance Cinematic which is still one of my personal favourites. It was a very organic process.”

He listed “Cinematic” as his personal favorite song on the album. “‘Cinematic’ still is a very strong track to me, but also ‘Give Me Some’ and ‘Feel Good definitely’ are still regulars in my set and off course ‘Rhythm Of The Night’,” he explained.

“Put Your Hands Up for Detroit” hit its 10 year anniversary last year. “Reaching such a significant mark off course is something very special. I’m extremely fortunate that I’ve been able to do what I do for such an extended period of time and I hope to be able to keep on doing so for a long time to come,” he said.

On his cover of “Rhythm of the Night,” he said, “I really liked the vocal and actually created something for my set. From there it was a little luck to have the sample owners like the idea and allow me to work with it, it’s such an iconic vocal and I really wanted to try and give it a new shine.”

Regarding his future plans, he said, “A lot of new music! I’m creating a lot of new stuff and feeling very happy in the studio at the moment. ‘Dancing Together’ felt as the perfect song to have as first release of the year for me, simultaneously kicking of a new future for Darklight Recordings together with Armada music, 2017 is off to a good start.”

On May 26, Fedde Le Grand will be playing Marquee New York. “It will be a good show with some new music! I always enjoy being back in New York and Marquee really never disappoints so I’m expecting a great night to be honest,” he said.

The Dutch producer and DJ is drawn to electronic dance music due to its “groove.” Fedde had nothing but the kindest remarks about Dannic, who has listed him as his musical inspiration. “It was a lot of fun. A lot of fun! Dannic really is a cool and super fun guy. We’re both very down to earth so we’ve just been enjoying working on the track and goofing around a bit in the studio. Can’t wait for the track to release,” he said.

Most impressive about Fedde is that he has been in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll consistently in the Top 50 for the last decade. “That was impressive. Might be a bit weird to say it like that. But it’s really a moment where you sit back and realize like ‘wow.’ I’m so fortunate and so lucky with the dedication of my fans. In the end it’s all about the music and less about the ranking, but it shows you so much appreciation from fans across the globe and I’m just eternally thankful for that.”

For aspiring DJs and house producers, he underscored that it important to “work hard.” “Don’t let disappointment push you away from your goals. If you’re really in it for the love of the music, hard work will pay off in the end!” he exclaimed.

He defined the word success as “dedication and reinventing, without losing, yourself more than anything.”

“Thank you,” he told his fans. “You guys rock and I can’t wait to see you guys across the globe for so many more shows! As long as there’s good music to share I’ll be there.”
