article imageExclusive: Meghan Linsey talks new album 'Bold Like a Lion' Special

By Markos Papadatos     Nov 2, 2017 in Music
Singer-songwriter Meghan Linsey (alumna from "The Voice") chatted with Digital Journal about her new studio album "Bold Like a Lion."
Regarding the song selection process for the new album, Bold Like a Lion, she said, "I started writing for the album almost two years ago. I really narrowed it down to the songs I thought were the most representative of me as a woman at this moment in time."
Linsey continued, "It was important for me to keep it real. I wanted to write songs about things I've been through. Overcoming adversity and feeling empowered as a woman. I want people to really connect to the songs and also feel empowered after listening to them."
It was extremely difficult for Linsey to select a personal favorite song from the new album. "It's so hard to pick one," she said. "I love them all for different reasons. 'Mr. Homewrecker' is a really special song. It came from a very raw, real place and I think a lot of people will be able to relate to that one."
When asked about her biggest motivation, she said, "My goal in my career has shifted a lot over the last few years. I've realized it's my responsibility as an artist to use my platform to shine a light on important issues and to spread a message of love and hope. That is what keeps me going."
On her future plans, Linsey revealed, "I'm excited to get this album released so I can continue to promote it over the next year. I want to release a video for each song and tour and play it live for the fans. I also want to get into public speaking and continue to shine a light on issues that are important to me."
Digital transformation of music
On the impact of technology on the contemporary music scene, Linsey said, "It's been good and bad. I love that I can be totally independent and promote my music. It's so much easier to reach people. That being said, it's harder to cut through when there's so much music on the Internet. I think you just have to continue to be true to yourself and put out music you're proud of and you will find your fan base."
On her use of technology in her music routine, she said, "Facebook Live has been a powerful tool. I love performing live on the Internet, because I'm able to reach so many more people at one time, than I would in a music venue."
"This album is for the fans," she concluded. "It's meant to empower them and make them feel like they can overcome anything. It's completely 'me' from beginning to end. It's the album I've always wanted to make and I hope they love it and find strength listening to it."
