Country duo Smithfield talks ‘When You’re Gone,’ proud moments (Includes interview)

On their new single “When You’re Gone,” they said, “Trey had the title “When You’re Gone”, but had the idea of it being a sad song like when your physically gone after a relationship. We all decided it was too serious and had been done before. After a song like “Hey Whiskey”the bar is raised pretty high to write clever ideas and lyrics. Brennin our co-writer had the lead guitar lick down that morning before we even showed up and we totally dug it. It was vibey and different from anything we had done before. Through our conversations we discovered writing it from a different angle would make it stand out. “when your gone” as in when your tipsy. It’s a sexy, sultry tune about a guy who’s girl turns him on when she has a little too much to drink. She’s the perfect girl that everyone wants to be at the party and he can’t believe he is with her.”

Regarding their future plans, they said, “A music video for the song is in the works as we speak! Be looking for it in the next few weeks. We are also on a lot of major country music festivals this summer so we are excited to be out on the road meeting fans and having them hear our music live. Come see us.”

Their previous single “Hey Whiskey” accumulated over two million streams on Spotify, which was an “incredible feeling” for the duo. “To know that people want to listen to a song we wrote two million times is pretty darn cool. Feels like we are doing something right for sure,” they exclaimed.

They have been profiled by such media outlets as People, Huffington Post and Rolling Stone Country “Honestly, that felt surreal to us. These types of outlets cover our heroes in music. To think we get to be honored like that along side them at this level is something to be proud of,” they said.

In May, they performed in New York with rising country artist Drew Baldridge. “New York is amazing. Such an incredible city. It reminds us of Nashville because it’s a city for dreamers. We played the Gramercy Theatre, which was a bucket list for us. Drew was awesome play with too. We became really great friends, and loved getting to share that stage with him. He is the nicest guy on and off stage,” they said.

Other proud moments for the Texas duo include their Grand Ole Opry debut, hearing their song on the radio, as well as seeing their music video on CMT. “We are independent artists, and to know that we were able to accomplish those things on our own is truly rewarding and something we are very proud of cause we know the work we put into it to get those things,” they said.

For their fans, they concluded, “We love them and appreciate all the support of us and our music. We don’t get to do what we love without them. We also can’t wait for them to hear whats coming out next.”

“When You’re Gone” is available on iTunes.
