Chatting with O El Amor at Mulcahy’s Pub and Concert Hall (Includes interview)

O El Amor shared the stage with The 90’s Band, as part of 90’s Night. “I couldn’t wait to come here tonight, because we all look forward to the weekends to do this and stuff,” Disco Goya said. “They treat us good at Mulcahy’s and people come out. It’s a win all around.”

Their plans for the future are to continue doing music for as long as they can. “We started this so long ago, when we would have to beg people to come, and about five years ago, it turned into this cult thing, and we are tickled that it got to this point,” he said. “We did it because it was a fun thing.”

When asked about the origin of the masks that they wear, he revealed that it’s the story of five brokenhearted lovers that have been scorned from love. “We come out here and we pour our hearts out in love songs, and we have to hide our faces in shame with masks, so that’s what we do. We are so embarrassed of the heartache that we’ve had,” he said. “It is such a relatable thing with the heartbreak, love and the break-ups. That’s why it caught on. We will never remove these masks.”

“Our fans are passionate, devoted, and they’ve gotten tattoos in our names. They come every other week repeatedly to see us, so the devotion is just incredible. We couldn’t thank the ‘family’ enough. Our biggest fan, Kandi, calls it ‘O El Amorians.’ We love them,” he concluded.

Aside from Disco Goya on lead vocals, O El Amor is made up of Dirty Sanchez on keyboards, Jesus Mana Cerveza Jr. on lead guitar, Don Corazon Destrozado on drums, as well as bassist Bongo El Mongo.
