Chatting with Michaela Weeks: Britney Spears impersonator (Includes interview)

“I have been performing as Britney since 2009. I began as a lookalike in 2005 and then progressed into the music side,” Weeks said.

On her greatest musical influences, Weeks said, “I grew up listening to a lot of pop music and I adored music videos from the likes of B*Witched, Atomic Kitten, S club 7, and Westlife (all big pop bands in the UK). They were cheesy, good fun, upbeat vibes and I adored them! Then Britney hit the scene in 1999, and again I loved her music videos and was drawn to her personality. I was very much into pop music as a pre-teen, it was the big thing of my era.”

Weeks is drawn to Britney Spears due to her “humble nature.” “I love so many things about Britney, but most of all, I’d say I admire her humble nature. She is this huge global icon and yet she has her feet firmly on the ground and is such a sweet character. I think a lot of people could benefit from taking a leaf out of her book. She never gets involved in disputes with other artists, she’s a true professional and I think she has a pure heart,” she explained.

Regarding her future plans, Weeks said, “I am performing more theatre-based shows this year across the UK, and doubling up with two other artists, Lee Randell as Robbie Williams and Anthony Whitehead as Justin Timberlake, so there are two new shows right there: ‘Toxic – The Britney and Robbie Experience’ (UK’s prince and princess of pop), then there’s ‘Britney & Justin Live,’ which is taking both artists songs and telling a story of the pairs relationship, break up, and continued success. Both shows have classic hits and current chart toppers so there is something for everyone. A side from that, I have weddings, parties and birthdays booked as Britney and plans for a three-week stint in Sweden. Oh and another trip to Las Vegas!”

When asked if she would come and perform in the U.S.A., she said, “Hopefully so, I would love to come back to the U.S.A. It’s absolutely one of my favourite places. I love the people and the atmosphere so much. So yeah, the first opportunity I get, I will be crossing the pond for sure.”

Her favorite Britney tune to perform live is “Toxic,” due to its fun and upbeat nature. “I get to let my hair down and play more with facial expressions and such. Britney’s performances of ‘Toxic’ are so fun so I love that I can re-create that! Then, another favourite is definitely ‘Baby One More Time.’ I perform an upbeat remix of this song and it gets everyone out of their seats every time! It’s a classic, everyone loves a bit of ‘Baby!'”

Throughout her career, Weeks has been fortunate enough to meet Britney Spears. “I never imagined in my wildest dreams that one day I would meet Britney in the flesh, and even the thought of it possibly happening was a scary thought, I remember thinking ‘What if I get to meet her one day, and she hates me or doesn’t like me being a doppelganger for her…’ It was a scary thought because for years I have idolized her and studied her and perfected my craft, what if I met her and she was a horrible person? Would I still want to portray her? Well luckily for me, I needn’t have worried at all! She was a sweetheart! She handpicked me as a competition winner from my photo and then invited me backstage to meet her. I met her family, her boys and management all of whom were so down to earth and lovely! She has a great team around her and they’re all so positive and genuinely lovely people. I feel even more blessed to be a impersonator for someone who is so wonderful in person too!”

Regarding her daily motivations, she said, “Like anyone I have days where it’s hard to get motivated, usually a good browse through Britney’s social media is enough to kick my behind, or I watch her performances in Las Vegas. That girl is insanely fit and can dance. I’m also very competitive (like really bad!) so I work hard to try and make my performances the best that they can be!”

She listed Bruno Mars as her dream male collaboration choice. “This is so funny because I literally was so close to doing a duet with Bruno Mars on a UK radio station this year. That would have been insane! It turned out he was on a tight schedule and they didn’t get chance to run the feature so I missed out, but hey hopefully one day. I love Bruno Mars’ music,” she said.

“Never give up on your dreams,” she said, for aspiring singers. “I know it’s cliche, but it’s true. Follow your heart and do what makes you happy. Life is too short to wish you had followed your dreams!”

For her fans, Weeks concluded, “Thank you so much for every single bit of support over the years. I try to always read all my comments on social media and there really is some wonderful kind people out there, and their support really does make a difference. I’m my own biggest critic so whenever I receive positive feedback its so lovely to hear, so yeah, thank you!”
