“It feels great. I love this station and I love this market,” Smith said. “We’re going to play some new songs, including the new single and some songs from Bronco.”
He shared that “Like You That Way” was inspired by his wife, Christy. “My wife is good at keeping me on my toes, in a good way. I find it sexy when she has a mind of her own. It reminds me sort of a Miranda Lambert kind of crazy, where she has her own brand,” he said.
Smith is the first country star to give Miranda Lambert a shout-out in a radio single. “It’s cool. I hope Miranda is okay with it. I’ve never met Miranda, but I just think she’s a good example of the kind of girl that keeps you on her toes. You never know what’s coming next and it’s bad-ass,” he said.
His plans for the future include recording new music, and touring all summer long. He listed “Love You Like That” and “Bronco” as his two favorite songs of his. “To be honest ‘Love You Like That’ changed my career, and ‘Bronco’ helped me heal,” he said. “As a songwriter, you have a chance to tell a story about yourself that really happened, and I needed to say some of those things so that the world can know. It was very cathartic, and a very special song. I never get tired of playing ‘Bronco.’ I feel close to my brother every time I sing it.”
Each day, Smith is motivated by “doing what he loves” and “being able to take care of his family doing it.” “My wife and I love to have fun together, and travel,” he said. “As long as I’m doing what I love, creating what I love, and taking care of who I love, I’m happy.”
The Virginia native defined the word success as “Being true to myself, true to my wife and true to God.” For his fans, Smith concluded, “Thank you. I love you. I will never go away, and I know you won’t either.”
“Like You That Way” is available on iTunes.
