On her new single “Time of Our Lives,” she said, “I was writing last summer, thinking about my senior year. I was talking with my roommates how nervous we were for senior year, and how scary it would be to leave college and leave each other. I wanted to embrace every moment and be present with my friends. That’s how the song came about. I released it on graduation day, and it was so much fun. It was amazing to be able to do that. Some of my friends came up to me and told me that they love that song since it makes them think of graduation. I was so glad to be able to experience that.”
Elliott continued, “I hope that the song is encouraging to the fans, and I hope that they embrace every moment. I wrote it about college, and being present in the last year, but I am quickly learning that it is applicable to every moment in life. Embrace who you are with, and expect more music, since it is all coming very soon.”
Regarding her Harvard Graduation, she said, “That was unreal. It was truly a surreal experience. I was the first person in my family to go to college, and it was so great to share that experience with them. It was just incredible. There were a lot of tears. I was sobbing the entire time. It was crazy that I even got in Harvard University.”
Last year, Elliott opened for such groups as Lifehouse and Switchfoot. “Oh my gosh. Jason Wade is the nicest person in the entire planet. I am convinced he is an actual angel,” she said. “It was incredible to be on that tour with Lifehouse and Switchfoot. It was the perfect tour for me to be on, since both bands encouraged me and gave me a ton of advice that I will be using for the rest of my life.”
On her future plans, she said, “I am doing a lot of promo for the song next month, and I am going to Nashville next week to work on my album. I am also releasing an EP in August about my time in college. Hopefully, I will be out on the road in the fall as well.”
She listed Chris Martin from Coldplay, James Arthur and Ed Sheeran as her dream male duet partners in music.
Digital transformation of music business
Regarding the impact of technology on the music business, Elliott said, “I really love it, in some ways. It is amazing to be able to have the world of music very open and very accessible. For me, it is endlessly inspiring. I can go on Spotify and listen any kind of music. I think you hear so many different kinds of music, and that’s a result of being able to hear a lot of music on the Internet.”
