Regarding his latest song, “Weight,” DeWyze said, “I spent a lot of my time on the guitar, and I write a lot of songs. I’m always in the studio writing. This time, I sat at the piano and wrote this song. It’s definitely one of those songs that was fueled by a lot of things that have gone on in my life, and I wanted to put them in a song. It turned out that this song in particular, with just the piano and the vocal, was everything it needed, and I was really happy with the result.”

DeWyze spent most of 2016 touring to support his latest album Oil & Water. His plans for the future are to continue to tour and to make more records. “I am always creating new music, and I am always writing and releasing new things. A lot of what I do is really built around the moment, and I do a lot of writing for television. A lot of music comes from those opportunities as well.”

DeWyze performed on the American Idol finale with Phillip Phillips, Nick Fradiani, David Cook and Kris Allen, as part of a David Bowie tribute. “It was cool. It was a good time,” DeWyze said.

“Weight” is available on iTunes.
