Regarding his new single, “Beautiful,” Hernandez said, “This was the only song that I have not written in my entire career. I was going through a bit of a dark time with my music, and a really bad break-up. When my agent presented the song to me, it was one of two songs that were pitched, and that was the one that stood out most to me. When I went in the studio three months later, I recorded the vocals and it was like a therapy experience for me. By the time we were done with the song, it had changed my frame of mind and way of thinking. So far, the reception has been incredible, and it is really cool to see how the public received it.”
Speaking of catharsis, music has always been a form of escape for Hernandez, and that is evident in his new single “Beautiful.” “I am excited for the new single, and to spread the message about love, acceptance and positivity. Growing up, I was raised by a single parent, I had a divorced family, and a lot of unstable ground,” he said.
All of the people in his “Beautiful” music video were all volunteers. “Nobody charged for that. We just got everybody in there, and most of them are real couples,” he said. “That was really cool to have all those people show up and film the music video for 15 hours.”
He had nothing but the finest recollections about his experience on the reality competition, American Idol, and shared that he will miss the show now that the television series is officially over. “It was super-nostalgic for me. It gave me my start in the music industry. That was my first professional gig, and it was quite an experience that catapulted my career. I am very grateful for that,” he said.
Hernandez listed Beyonce, Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys as his dream female duet choices.
