Amanda Smith discusses 2016 IBMA nomination, new album ‘Unbound’ (Includes interview)

On her 2016 International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) nomination for “Female Vocalist of the Year,” she said, “It’s always an honor to even begin to think that my name is there with those talented ladies that I have loved and respected for years. I’m so excited!”

Her new album, with her husband, Kenny Smith, is going to be released on September 23 and it is entitled Unbound. “We haven’t recorded in five years with the birth of our sweet Annabelle keeping us busy, so we are really excited to release this CD. We have some great songs on this one,” she said.

Smith continued, “Several of the songs for this album we have been collecting since the last CD Catch Me If I Try. Some of the songs relate to being new parents and are some of my favorite ones we have ever recorded,” she said.

Her favorite song from the new CD is “You Know That I Would.” “It talks about if you could make your child’s life perfect from pain, sorrow and all of the crazy things that life throws their way you would. It’s truly hard to sing without crying the words really hit home with us now,” she said.

On their plans for the future, the bluegrass princess concluded, “We plan to continue on as we have always done. Hoping to buy a RV soon so travel with a one-year-old will be more comfortable for her. Annabelle has already made some appearances on stage singing which is a absolute joy for her mama and daddy to see. She is the light of our lives and we want her to experience the joys of traveling the world with us and sharing our music.”
