By Markos Papadatos     Feb 9, 2014 in Entertainment
Party Marty Michell is the Program Director, Music Director and morning show host on Thunder 106.3/106.5, WKMK in Monmouth / Ocean, New Jersey.
He was nominated for such prestigious honors as the Country Music Association (CMA) and Academy of Country Music (ACM) "Radio Personality of the Year" awards; moreover, his radio station was recently nominated for the third time in four years for the "ACM Country Radio station of the Year" at the upcoming 49th annual ACM awards that are held in Las Vegas on April 6th, 2014 (A combined CMA/ACM total of 6 nominations in less than 3 years under Mitchell's leadership).
It marks the first time in history that a New Jersey country radio station garnered such nominations. "It was a dream come true since the CMAs are the Grammys of country music," he admitted. "To follow the CMA nomination up with ACM nominations for 'Personality of the Year' and 'Radio Station of the Year' was just incredible."
Mitchell was subsequently named as “One of the Top Radio Programmers in the Country in 2013” by Radio Ink.
"I arrived in April of 2011 as Program Director and in June of 2011, I added morning show host responsibilities, in addition to programming the station and music," he said. "I usually get 3.5 hours of sleep every night between working 12 hours day and station appearances."
He continued, "People often say to me, 'You're the hardest working person in show business,'" which he takes with pride.

Mitchell was honored in November of 2013 by the New Jersey State PBA with the Excellence in Media Award at the recent Valor Awards in Atlantic City, New Jersey. "I was very humbled by this honor since Police Officers put their lives on the line every single day to protect us," he said.
Thunder 106's signal extends from Atlantic City to New York City to Philadelphia with a combined audience of approximately 500,000 listeners. During his nearly three-year tenure at the station, he has taken Thunder 106 from a station with ratings at a low 1.5 average share to the most-listened-to music station in the market with a 5.0 share, that is No. 1 in various day-parts.
According to Mitchell, the ratings are also the highest for a New York/New Jersey country radio station in over a decade.
His job description includes creating on air contests, ratings book promotions, executing promotions, revenue generating, station strategy, booking talent for shows, coaching on-air staff, updating station website, as well as handling social media.
He holds over 25 years experience in major radio markets, on air, programming, promotions and production.
The veteran radio personality listed his interviews with Garth Brooks and George Strait as two of his all-time favorite interviews that he has done in country music. His George Strait interview was quite impressive since Strait is very humble and not known for doing many interviews.
Mitchell enjoyed having Phil Vassar as his special guest who co-hosted his morning show and played songs for several hours on his show.
Martina McBride, Kellie Pickler and Carrie Underwood are three of his favorite female interviews. "Kellie Pickler is a wonderful person with a great personality, warm and very outgoing," he said. "She's dynamite."
