Emblem3 is one of music's hottest new trios out there. They gained critical acclaim after finishing in fourth place on the reality singing competition "The X Factor."
The group is comprised of brothers Keaton and Wesley Stromberg, as well as their lifelong friend Drew Chadwick. Keaton took some time from his schedule to chat about their musical journey.
Keaton shared that Emblem3 has been influenced musically by Blink 182, Sublime, as well as bands from the 1990s era. "For me, personally, I have been influenced by indie-rock music," he said.
Their debut studio album Nothing To Lose was released on July 30, via their record label, Columbia Records. "Basically, right after The X Factor last year, we went into the studio on the next day and we recorded and wrote as many songs as possible. We recorded probably about 22 songs and we had to cut it down to the 15 that are on the deluxe album," he said.
Their CD was a commercial success, debuting at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 all-genre album charts, thus marking the highest first week sales of any other act from the U.S. version of The X Factor and the biggest debut album sales week for any U.S. television competition series artist in 2013.
Keaton listed the song "3000 Miles" as his personal favorite track on the album, especially since it is a ballad. He subsequently revealed that "Girl Next Door" is his brother, Wesley's, favorite track on the CD.
The group has announced their first national headlining tour for winter of 2014, entitled "The #BandLife Tour," which kicks off on February 10 in Dallas, Texas. Popular duo MTKO will serve as their opening act on all of their dates.
On February 26, they will be playing at The Paramount, a venue situated in Huntington, New York. "We are so excited about that show. It is going to be so awesome," he said. "There will be a lot of new songs and a lot of songs on Nothing To Lose. It's just going to be a blast."
Each day, Keaton is motivated by the band's dedicated fans. "The fans motivate me more than anything. They definitely keep me going, and there is a lot of love involved there. It's really cool," he said.
In 2013, Emblem3 has had many proud moments, included the release of their first album, as well as playing the Staples Center in their native California. "The Staples Center was huge," he said.
This past summer, Emblem3 took home the Teen Choice Award for "Choice Music Breakout Group," where they bested such musical acts as Icona Pop, Imagine Dragons, The Lumineers, as wells as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. "That was so awesome," he said. "It was such an honor to be even nominated in the category that we were in, and to actually win was amazing. The fact that the fans are really dedicated to us and they really love us is really awesome. We love them."
Keaton aspires to continue playing music for the rest of his life. "We would like to release another album and keep doing this and building our fan-base and keep on going," he said.
A teen sensation, Keaton listed songstresses Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez as his dream female duet choices. "They are so well-liked in the pop world and everybody loves them," he said. "They are great people and that would be really cool."
Speaking of Selena Gomez, Emblem3 served as her opening act for her nationwide "Stars Dance" arena tour. "It was an amazing tour and it was so cool. Selena was just a cool, down-to-earth girl," he said.
Aside from music, Keaton stated that he enjoys "surfing" as one of his favorite past-time hobbies.
