article imageInterview with country star David Frizzell: 'Valentine's Day' Special

By Markos Papadatos     Feb 15, 2014 in Entertainment
Valentine's Day this year was quite special and ironic. I had the pleasure to chat with veteran country music star David Frizzell about his latest song "Valentine's Day."
"I write my wife, Jo, songs all the time. Over the years I have written her many songs. This particular one 'Valentine's Day' matched her so much and it ended up being a good little song. I had many great musicians play on this song with me. It was one of those most incredible things," he explained.
"It's her special song for this special day, but I can write her a book," he added with a laugh. "It's one of those things that happened to be about a particular day and the love that I have for this woman. It all came together so easy."
Frizzell hinted that he is working on an "amazing project" that should be quite interesting and something his fans can definitely look forward to.
He noted that he is incredibly blessed in his life, since he followed in the footsteps of his big brother, the late great Lefty Frizzell. "I followed him into eternity and I'm glad I did. There is a few of us that followed that great man," he said. "I am in a good position in my life right now. I can look backwards and I can see my brother Lefty and Ernest Tubb and Johnny Cash and I look in the future and I see Tim McGraw. I have such a great time working with my friends over the years. We have done a lot of shows together and it's just so much fun working with all these incredibly talented people in this business. That is what gets me from one day to the next."
David Frizzell is also known for the country standard, "You're The Reason God Made Oklahoma," his duet with Shelly West (Dottie West's daughter) and chart-topping country single in 1981. It was featured in Clint Eastwood's film Any Which Way You Can and in recent years, it was voted as the No. 6 greatest country duet song of all-time, and rightfully so.
"You're The Reason God Made Oklahoma" has been covered by so many great artists such as Keith Urban, Sugarland, Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton and it is bound to stand the test of time.
