article imageInterview with Andrew Ripp: Acoustic singer-songwriter Special

By Markos Papadatos     Dec 14, 2013 in Entertainment
Grammy-nominated entertainer Dave Barnes has praised fellow acoustic singer-songwriter Andrew Ripp as an "insanely talented" musician and rightfully so.
Ripp opened for acclaimed songstress Sara Bareilles prior to her concert at The Paramount in Huntington, New York on December 7. "I'm absolutely honored. Sara is fantastic and I love everything that I heard musically from her," he said. "I just met her and she seems like the sweetest person in the world."
In addition, he opened for country singer Leann Rimes a few weeks prior at the same venue, along with New York country singer Joanna Mosca. "I actually played here with Leann and she was awesome," he said. "Joanna Mosca is the sweetest person in the world. She's a sweetheart," Ripp reiterated.
His goal for his album Won't Let Go was to write the best songs possible and with all the great reviews it has received, it is safe to say that he accomplished that. "I wanted to write more songs than I've ever written just to have a pot full of great songs. I picked the best 12 out of 70," he said. "I am with a record label in Nashville right now called Be Music and Entertainment. They love what I do and they signed me because they love my music."
He continued, "The new CD is most true to what I love musically. It sounds like something I would listen to, which is pretty exciting to me."
Ripp revealed that he is inspired musically by Irish musician Foy Vance. "I listen to everything and I am in love with Foy Vance and his music," he said.
He shared that his plans for 2014 include a new album "Simple," as well as a "Simple" tour to go along with it that commences in February. "A band called Judah and the Lion is coming out and they are opening for me. They are awesome," he exclaimed. "I am also making a new full-blown record."
His dream duet choices include an impressive mix of talented female artists such as Sara Bareilles, Brandi Carlile and Alison Krauss. "Brandi would be on the list for sure. She is unbelievable and she is just so good," he said. "Alison Krauss is amazing as well."
Aside from his music, he works with an organization, Young Life. "We bring strong leadership into high schools to give kids (that don't have a strong family life) some solid foundation. It's a really cool deal," he explained.
