“Heroes” — the NBC science-fiction TV drama series created by Tim Kring — is to return to television in 2015, it has been revealed.
NBC have confirmed that Kring will once again head the new series, Heroes Reborn. Furthermore, Digital Spy reports that the TV series will be preceded by a digital series, which “will introduce new storylines and characters.”
Heroes, heroes, everywhere!
Announcing their plans, NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke said, “Shows with [this] kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another instalment.”
The original series, which ran for four seasons between 2006 to 2010, included in its cast were, among many other, Zachary Quinto (Star Trek), Hayden Panettiere (Nashville), Santiago Cabrera (The Musketeers) as, Noah Gray-Cabey (Pizza Man), Masi Oka (Hawaii Five-O), Sendhil Ramamurthy (Beauty & The Beast), Milo Ventimiglia (Marvel Anime), Thomas Dekker (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) Jack Coleman (Dynasty) and Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who).
Heroes told the stories of how ordinary people who discover that they have superhuman powers, were effected in their everyday lives.
As to whether any of the original characters will return for the new series is being kept firmly under wraps.
“Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy,” Salke said, “but we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.”
Of Kring’s involvement with Heroes Reborn, however, Salke said that they were “thrilled” that he was onboard. “Tim […] was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were, and we look forward to all the new textures and layers [he] plans to add to his original concept,” she added.
Tim Kring also created NBC’s Crossing Jordan, the crime drama series that starred Jill Hennessey (Law & Order) and has since developed the US thriller Touch for Fox, which starred Kiefer Sutherland (24) and, together with Homeland ’s Gideon Raff, NBC’s upcoming Dig, which will star Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter).
