article imageFirst look at Peter Capaldi as Doctor Who

By Mathew Wace Peck     Jan 7, 2014 in Entertainment
The first photograph of Peter Capaldi in costume as the new Doctor has been released by the BBC, as “Doctor Who” goes back before the cameras.
In the photograph, the former star of The Thick of It can bee seen alongside his current travelling companion Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman). Both are in costume, but Capaldi still appears to be wearing Smith's Eleventh Doctor costume.
As to what Capaldi's Doctor will eventually wear is still being kept a closely guarded secret although, as Radio Times reported last year, it is expected to mix old and new.
Capaldi — who was cast as the Twelfth Doctor in August 2013 — is actually the thirteenth actor to play the iconic part in the BBC’s 50-year-old television science-fiction series.
The Scottish actor took over from Matt Smith in December, when the Doctor was seen to regenerate on Christmas Day in a 60-minute special by Steven Moffat.
Capaldi, who is a lifelong fan of the series, has already appeared as the Doctor in two scenes of the show: in the 50th-anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor, last November; and at the close of the Christmas special, The Time of the Doctor.
However, previously, the 55-year-old has played two other characters in the Doctor Who universe: Caeciliusin in The Fires of Pompeii (2008); and John Frobisher in Torchwood: Children of Earth (2009).
Just before Christmas, a read-through took place for the first episode of the 2014 season of Doctor Who, which may or may not include an Easter special.
