article imageReview: Kevin Brennan delivers hysterical comedy show at The Brokerage Special

By Markos Papadatos     Sep 15, 2018 in Entertainment
Bellmore - On September 15, comedian Kevin Brennan performed at the Governor's Comedy Club at The Brokerage in Bellmore on Long Island.
In his witty comedic set, Brennan shared that he has two kids, a son (age six) and a daughter (age 10), and poked fun about the hardships of raising them. "I want to kill myself," he joked.
He explained that he got a hernia from playing with one of his kids, and therefore, that kid was "not his favorite" anymore. "Before I got a hernia, I was a nice guy," he admitted.
For Brennan, he acknowledged that it is hard to have kids and a sex life. He stated that he is Irish and his wife is Hispanic and that raising kids leads to no money. His kids learned to curse, and while his wife doesn't condone that behavior, Brennan agrees with them since they "curse at the right time."
He recalled that when he was young, he was an altar boy for five years, and shared that he never got hit on by any of the priests, so he felt "insulted" as a result, given everything that is going on with the church scandals. Equally funny was when we talked about colonoscopies and his prostate exam experience.
One of the highlights of his show was when he made fun of a large table filled with elderly folks, and he noted that "they can't hear him." He mentioned that they came to see his earlier show (as opposed to the 10 p.m. one) due to the "Early Bird" special.
He described one of the elderly men as "Bob Hope" and "Wolfman Jack," and he subsequently invited him on stage, which was well-received. On the other side of the comedy club, he called another woman "Judge Judy," who was expressing her views on his topics via her facial expressions.
While kids are texting constantly, he noted that the entire table of the elderly people "all share one phone." Other topics he discussed were the #MeToo movement, Kevin Spacey, and growing up in a family of 10 kids when they would ride in station wagons. "My parents were nonchalant," he said.
The Verdict
Overall, Kevin Brennan's comedic set at Governor's Comedy Club at The Brokerage was clever and a great deal of fun. He had the entire venue in laughs every step of the way, and rightfully so. He also allowed for spontaneity with the audience members, which was an added treat. Brennan is worth seeing whenever he performs in town. His stand-up show garnered an A rating.
