Review: Debbie Harry and Blondie superb at the Tilles Center in New York (Includes first-hand account)

A Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Debbie Harry kicked off their upbeat set on a sassy note with the spitfire “One Way or Another,” and it was followed by “Hanging on the Telephone” and “Fun.”

They continued with their powerhouse hits “Call Me” and “Rapture,” where everybody was singing along with them. Front-woman Debbie Harry showcased her rich, raspy vocals on “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35,” where she tipped her hat to the iconic musician Bob Dylan.

Other noteworthy tunes included “Fragments,” “Too Much” and “Long Time.” After “Maria,” they closed with “Atomic” and their popular hit “Heart of Glass,” where they got the crowd on their feet, clapping along. Their hypnotic version of “Heart of Glass” earned a tremendous response from the Tilles Center audience.

For their encore, the rock band returned to the stage for the mid-tempo yet melodically stunning “Dreaming,” as blue lights dimmed from the stage, as well as their signature tune “The Tide is High.” Harry blew multiple kisses to the audience as she left the stage.

The Verdict

Overall, Debbie Harry and her band Blondie were able to rock out the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts. They proved that their songs were timeless and captivating. Debbie Harry’s voice is crystalline and unique. Their live set on Long Island garnered an A rating.
